  1. The fine print does present a signficant roadblock for this deal in that it requires direct deposit. This would preclude children and even those of us who don’t have a direct deposit option…… Is there a way around this?

To qualify for the 30,000 bonus miles offer, a Delta SkyMiles World Check Card must be opened with the checking account. A qualifying Direct Deposit is a direct deposit of your salary, pension, Social Security or other regular monthly income of $100 or more per deposit electronically deposited to your account during statement cycle by your employer or an outside agency.

  3. I’d would check the FlyerTalk thread as some people have commented on ways to meet that requirement. One thing I can think of is if your employer lets you split up your Direct Deposit into 2 deposit. (I think most places allow this). If you split it between 2 accounts, and your Spouse does the same thing, that should cover the Direct Deposit for your kids.

  4. Since this isn’t a credit card offer, there is a good chance you’ll have to pay tax on the points. If they value to points similarly to Citibank, that could make the points bonus not worth it (depending on your marginal rate).

  5. Unless you have heard anything specific about SunTrust, I think it should be fine. The only time I have heard of taxes for miles is for Citi checking accounts.
