Club Carlson 50,000 Point Big Night Giveaway

As MommyPoints had mentioned, there was a rumor Radisson’s 50,000 Point Big Night Giveaway was once again returning this year.

It looks like she was right on the money, and Radisson is once again bring the promotion back with some added twists.

Depending on which Club Carlson properties you stay at between 5/15/12 – 7/15/12, you can do any of the following:

  • For a 1 night stay at Radisson, you can get 50,000 Club Carlson points.
  • For a 1 night stay at Park Inn/Park Plaza, you can get 44,000 Club Carlson points.
  • For a 1 night stay at Country Inn & Suites, you can get 44,000 Club Carlson points.

You do have to register for the promotion and it is limited to the first 100,000 people but the promotions are stackable meaning you can do all 3 of them and potentially get 138,000 points!

Registration begins at 12:01 Am CDT on May 15, 2012.

Not all the sites are live yet, so if you get an error, check back on May 15, 2012.

If you aren’t already a Club Carlson member, please check out my post from yesterday where you can get an additional 4,500 miles just for signing up.

Depending on which offer you do, with the new user sign up bonus, you could potentially get 54,500 points from this promotion!

Is This A Good Deal?

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not really that familiar with the Club Carlson program, so just like you, I am learning along the way. However as my hotel booking last weekend taught me, you never know when you will need random hotel points, therefore I am definitely going to partake in this promotion.

Although registration for this promotion opens on May 15, it is always good idea to do a little prep work to make sure you are prepared to take advantage of the offer when it goes live.

So for those of you that are planning on partaking in this offer, I suggest the following:

Check To Make Sure There Are Club Carlson Properties Around You

The first thing I did was to check to see if there is a Radisson, Park Inn, or Country Inn near me and how much do they cost.

From my search on Kayak, it seems there is only 1 Radisson within downtown Chicago and that is the Radisson Blu, which costs $254 a night.

Although it would get me 55,000 points, it is hard for me to justify spending that much just to earn some points, so I took a look at some other options.

Airports typically have tons of different hotel options that vary greatly in terms of brands and costs.

Plugging in O’Hare into Kayak, it pulled up quite a few Radissons and Country Inns.

The cheapest Radisson costs $113 a night and the cheapest Country Inn costs $69 a night, which is far more in line with my budget for this promotion.

Although I would only get the 44,000 Club Carlson points if I did the Country Inn promotion, with the new user sign up bonus of 4,500 and the 500 or so points earn from the stay, it is hard to beat 50,000 points for $69!

What Are Club Carlson Points Worth
After confirming that I can take part in this promotion since there are in fact Radissons and Country Inns near me, it is time to check what exactly 50,000 Club Carlson points get you.

Checking out the Club Carlson Award Chart, it looks like award nights start at 9,000 points a night for Category 1, while Category 6 properties go for 50,000 a night.

Curious to see what constitutes a Category 6 hotel, I clicked on the link and the first hotel that popped up was the Radisson Blu Chicago!

Ultimately it depends on where you are planning to visit, but from what I saw it looks like there are quite a Radisson Blu properties around the world that are quite expensive if you had to pay for them out-of-pocket.

Tying It All Together
Now that we know how much it costs to take advantage of this promotion and what exactly 50,000 points can get you, it is time to put it all together.

From our original Kayak search, we know that it costs $254 a night to stay at the Radisson Blu Chicago and $69 a night to stay at the Country Inn.

From looking at Club Carlson’s Award Chart, we know the Radisson Blu Chicago is a Category 6 property and costs 50,000 Club Carlson points a night.

Therefore, by “investing” $69 for a 1 night stat at Country Inn, I would get around 50,000 Club Carlson points (44k + 4.5k + 500), which I could then hypothetically redeem for a 1 night stay at $254 a night Category 6 Radisson Blu Chicago.

It does not take a genius to conclude that spending $69 to stay at a $254 a night hotel is a GREAT DEAL!

You are essentially getting your stay for 72% off!

Obviously, you could also redeem your 50,000 points for lower category properties so as to get more nights out of your points.

As I always say, a great way to maximize a deal is to have your “Travel Partner” also get in on it!

This promotion is no different!

I will probably have my Girlfriend get in on this offer, so between the both of us we can get 100,000 Club Carlson points for $138.

What is really amazing is that if you and your “Travel Partner” both got in on this offer, and then both signed up for the Hyatt Visa, which currently offers 2 free nights just for signing up, you could potentially get 6 free nights (4 from Hyatt & 2 from Radisson) at some of the finest luxury hotels around the world for less than $200!
